Koviloor - Famous Spot
It is widely regarded as an ancient temple with strong ties to the Pandya period and is associated with the legendary King Veerasekara Pandiyan. The temple is known for its impressive Dravidian-style architecture, including a grand Rajagopuram, detailed stonework, and a sacred temple tank with a pillared mandapam. The temple also has a deep cultural connection with Koviloor Adheenam, one of Tamil Naduβs older mutts, which adds to its religious and heritage value. According to local legend, the temple was built after the king recovered his lost sword through divine grace, and the deity came to be known as Kotravaleeswarar. Today, the temple is an important pilgrimage site for devotees and a notable heritage destination for travelers exploring Karaikudi and the Chettinad region.
