Meivazhi (meaning “True Path”) emerged in the early 1900s and was organized around the teachings of Meivazhi Andavargal, who is regarded by followers as a spiritual preceptor and the movement’s central figure.The village is a purpose-built spiritual community where followers follow strict communal rules: houses are simple thatch or bamboo structures, modern comforts are limited (electricity historically banned inside the fenced area; solar is used for essential needs), and practices prohibit smoking, alcohol, gambling and meat-eating to preserve spiritual discipline.
